I had forgotten how amazing this album is. This is Pedro The Lion at their most plugged in and rocking. Control showcases David Bazan’s religious themes at their most cynical and desperate state. Bazan’s work is that of a Christian who is questioning his faith at every twist and turn.  It makes for a fascinating journey and Control is in my opinion, Pedro The Lion’s finest hour. Where the hell did Bazan disappear to though?

OK, so I know who Martin Dosh is. I have seen him in person drum for the great Andrew Bird on two seperate occasions. He is an amazing drummer to say the least. And I knew that he had his own project as well. So, why have I waited until now to check it out? Frankly, I don’t have a good answer. Wolves And Wishes is Dosh’s new album and it is full of mathy, jazzy instrumental greatness. I feel a bit stupid as this is Dosh’s fourth album now. Oh well, better late than never I guess. I’m on my way to check out the first three albums now. I suggest you climb aboard if you have not already done so.

I swear I have been writing a review for Pomegranates new album, Everything Is Alive all week. I just can’t stop adding more instead of actually finishing the review. This is an album that took a while to hit me but when it did…wow. The band has truly grown leaps and bounds since their debut EP last year. I really can not say enough about how great this album is. Neck and neck with Antlers as my album of the year so far. Look for the review next week. Hopefully, I can do it justice.

- That is the not the real artwork and a bunch of labels are putting this out (LP/CD) of which I can’t recall. But, based on the number of hits I get in regards to this band lately, I would say they are about to explode. As expected, the band’s debut full-length, Some Kind Of Cadwallader, is outstanding. Although, I do think Algernon Cadwallader may be better in short bursts rather than 10 songs back to back. Still, this is great stuff either way. You can read my review of the band’s 2006 demo and download it as well right here. For fans of Cap ‘n Jazz?

- If you want to know where Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes copped his vocal style then all you need to do is pick up any David Dondero album. Apparently, Oberst has admitted just that in interviews. One would hope so because there is no way he could possibly get away with it. And the irony is that both Dondero’s new album, Simple Love, and his last album, 2005’s South Of The South, have come out on Oberst’s label, Team Love. Simple Love is some of Dondero’s best work yet and is released today. Review upcoming.
