Yesan Damen: Chronos/Kairos

Now this what indie pop should sound like. Yesan Damen hit the top of the infectious meter on several different occasions on their new album, Chronos/Kairos. The band has the remarkable ability of exploring the wide array of human emotions. With layer upon layer of instrumental melodies and beautiful male/female vocal harmonies, Yesan Damen are able to touch many a nerve on Chronos/Kairos. Female vocals are courtesy of Jane Lee and Jen Wood (The Postal Service). At their best, Yesan Damen are recalling the greatness of a band like The Wrens. At their worst, this is more than serviceable indie pop. Yesan Damen also recall the grace of bands like Stars and The Delgados. Needless to say, most of the time, Yesan Damen find themselves in good company. “American Riot” might be one of my favorite tracks of 2008. Hidden on the back end of the album, it’s an indie rock anthem to say the least. So, forget the lovely harmonies. They might sound nice but I have a feeling Yesan Damen are capable of so much more.
