The Gibbons…

The Gibbons "Hope, Inc." (Salinas)

I have always heard a lot of great things about this band. The chatter started up again recently when it was announced the band was hanging it up. The Gibbons has been a band that I had been meaning to check out for quite some time. Now I am truly kicking myself for not doing so earlier. I am such a sucker for this type of melodic rough pop-punk and The Gibbons does it exceptionally well. If the band was staying together I could definitely see them fitting in nicely on the No Idea roster. Echoing such legendary bands like Leatherface and Jawbreaker while drawing comparisons to contemporaries like The Lawrence Arms, the band pummels through 11 songs in around 30 minutes. As with a lot of this type of music, the lyrics tend to run the gamut from political to personal. The band really reminds me most of The Broadways which was Brendan from The Lawrence Arms' previous band. Really, there is just not too much else to say here. Hope, Inc. is a great punk record from a truly underground band. Exceptional lyrics, tight melodies and beautiful DIY packaging. Supposedly, The Gibbons will be touring one more time so I am hoping I get the chance to sweat it out in a basement with them soon.

RIYL: Jawbreaker, Leatherface, The Lawrence Arms
